VIDA: An Immigrant Tale Told in TANGO
Featuring the music of Argentine composer Emmanuel Trifilio and performed by QuinTango
Monday, June 3, 2024 at 7pm
MetroStage is pleased to feature the music of Argentine composer Emmanuel Trifilio, performed by QuinTango, the region’s premiere and Alexandria’s resident tango band. “VIDA: An Immigrant Tale Told in TANGO”.
Since joining QuinTango five years ago, Maestro Trifilio, a Grammy-nominated composer, has created ten beautiful tangos for the group, each reflective of a time, an event, a relationship. Trifilio’s current fascination with the voice has produced new vocal tangos, one of which will be premiered at this cabaret.
Trifilio’s music is lovingly presented by his QuinTango bandmates, Regino Madrid and Joan Singer, violins; Ali Cook, bass and vocals; Alex Tang, piano; and Trifilio, bandoneon. “Eco de tu Amor” (Echo of your Love) follows a shattering love affair in the high mountains of the heart; “El Ultimo Abrazo” (The last Embrace) gives voice to a daughter whose mother is dying; “Milonga para Zoe” (Milonga for Zoe) celebrates the joyful abandon of a 4-year old; “Luna Roja” (Red Moon) lays bare the heartbreak of Ukraine. In addition to the instrumental tangos, there will be world premieres of new vocal tangos, sung by Ms. Cook.
QuinTango has performed to standing ovations at the White House, festivals in Italy, Uruguay, and Mexico, and theaters, schoolrooms, and churches in 29 states. They are an award-winning international ensemble, and Trifilio’s music is a language that needs no translation. It is Life, es la VIDA.
